The new Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts is a pile supported steel frame, one and two story masonry veneer structure. The school includes two (2) story classroom wings, a full service cafeteria with performance stage, and adjacent kitchen.
The project also includes a state of the art library, administrative offices, and a covered courtyard, as well as a circular outdoor assembly plaza area at the main entry to the school. The building is equipped with, an intercom system, a security camera system and an early warning fire alarm system. It also has a passenger elevator making all areas of the entire facility accessible. Additional work included ornamental fencing surrounding the entire site as well as landscaping, visitor and staff parking areas, bus drop off areas, and various other site improvements. Other features include insulated, impact resistant windows, as well as sunscreens over all fenestrations to reduce direct sunlight and to aid in energy conservation. As with all school projects, meeting the hard deadline of opening day despite various site and design issues is the primary objective.
