The newly constructed Stallings St. Claude Center and renovated Pool and Bathhouse is a community recreational center serving the entire Upper Ninth Ward and Bywater neighborhoods.
The building is a pile supported, steel frame structure with brick masonry veneer exterior walls with entrance canopies and ramps. It houses a state of the art full sized gymnasium, a dance room, an exercise room, a multi-purpose assembly/meeting room as well as an administrative office and restrooms. Clerestory double pane insulated impact resistant windows in the gymnasium and other spaces allow natural light to illuminate the entire gymnasium during the daylight hours. A sprinkler system, lighting control and fire alarm systems are also included. A concession area serving both the interior and exterior of the building is also included. The entire pool filtration and chlorination system has been replaced and the pool basin and bath house were completely refurbished. This facility will serve as a beacon of organized recreational opportunity for the youth and the rest of the neighborhood for years to come.
